Main > About Electric Pentacle
Electric Pentacle was created in Spring 2005 to serve as my personal studio, with this site as my online portfolio.
The studio's logo is drawn from the two primary subjects of my art: bright, optimistic technology, and dark, often gothic imagery. In more abstract terms, science and the supernatural. The logo reflects this, by depicting the ancient fused with the modern, the rational (an electronic circuit within a mechanical gear) embodying the mystical (a pentacle). This tension and dichotomy, between opposing worldviews and antithetical concepts (or the attempted resolution between them), is a prevalent theme of my work, as it draws on a major element of my personality.
Among the many cases of such contrast to be found in my gothic imagery, I am fond of the fusion of beauty and the grotesque, exploring the line between attractiveness and repulsion. In my technological mode, I have had a retro-futuristic Steampunk mentality since before that term existed; I am drawn to the merging of elegant, baroque, Victorian craftsmanship with more modern -- but stylistically bland -- mass-produced technology.
I have interest in a wide range of media and styles. My formal education is in traditional Fine Arts illustration and painting, but from the start I have been equally happy working in various digital media, such as video, 3D computer graphics, game level design, and virtual world sculpture and architecture.
